Be a Builder of the Beloved Community - Tutor High School Students
The core values of the Built to Last Collaborative are based on what Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. called the "beloved community." The Built to Last Collaborative will create, support and work within a beloved community in which people from all walks of life work together, side by side to increase high school graduation rates of young people at risk of failing to graduate from high school.
How can you help? We need volunteers to tutor youth either at their high schools from 2:30 – 4:30 pm or here in town at three academic achievement homework sites in east Menlo Park and East Palo Alto, Monday – Thursday evenings from 5pm – 7pm. Please let us know if you would like to help, we have a list of volunteer descriptions from classroom assistants and tutors to webmaster and special project fundraiser. Following is a BTLC Volunteer Job Description:
AFTER-SCHOOL TUTORS For ENGLISH, FRENCH OR SPANISH, MATH, PHYSICAL OR SOCIAL SCIENCES
Task: Work one-on-one with students to complete homework assignments and study for tests.
Qualifications: Proficient in specific subject matter, such as math, science or foreign language
Time: After school hours on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday
Place: Woodside, Carlmont, Sequoia or Menlo-Atherton high schools within Sequoia Union High School District located on the San Mateo County peninsula.
Time commitment: 1- 4 hours per week Starting Jan 12th until March 26, 2009. Consider staying for the year!
