ANNUAL FATHERHOOD AWARDS
Nominations due May 16, 2008
Annually, the Fatherhood Collaborative of San Mateo County recognizes individuals and organizations who have improved the lives of children by supporting the involvement of men and fathers in the lives of their families. For 2010, the Awards Ceremony will be held on June 19, 2010 at Coyote Point Park, as part of Dad and Me @ the Park
Nominations are taken in three categories:
- Father of the Year
- Fatherhood Advocacy
- Fatherhood Service
Father of the Year Award is awarded to a man who
* is 18 years of age or older, who may be a biological father, stepfather, grandfather, or other male caregiver;and
* resides in San Mateo County (although the child does not need to reside in the County); and
* has demonstrated exemplary parenting skills; and
* is involved in the life of a child/children.*
Past winners include: Kenneth Lybrand III, Jeff Morrow and Robert Jones
Fatherhood Advocacy Award is awarded to an individual or organization that
*advocates for community awareness and education regarding the importance of men and fathers in the lives of their children and families; and/or
*articulates the need to develop policies and procedures that are more inclusive of men and fathers with children and families; and/or
actively promotes and supports the development of programs and or services that emphasize men’s involvement with their children and families.
Past winners include: Mauricio Palma, Supervisor Jerry Hill, Network for a Healthy Home / MY HERO PROGRAM
Fatherhood Service Award is awarded to an individual or organization that
*provides mentoring, educational, and recreational programs, activities or services that benefit men with children and families; and/or
*is actively involved in programs and/or activities that specifically target men who fall into at least one of the following categories:
first-time fathers teen fathers
non-custodial fathers stepfathers
incarcerated fathers kinship-fathers
fathers of children with special needs
Past winners include: Patrisha Scott, Jaime Lopez and Pre-3 Parenting Education Classes

*Involvement includes one or more of the following:
1. consistent one-on-one interaction with the child;
2. consistent involvement with the child physically & emotionally;
3. consistent contributions to the child’s emotional well being and needs.
